Awards and Badges

The club runs a wide variety of badge schemes and progress awards throughout the year. This includes an indoor and outdoor handicap scheme with monthly prizes for most improved, winter Frostbites with the award of badges, and the award of Portsmouth badges. We also hold specific shoots that enable archers to be eligible for AGB classifications (both indoor and outdoor), Scottish rankings, as well as taking part in the Scottish Archery Postal League.

During the indoor season we run a handicap scheme, which is 3 dozen arrows show at 20 yards on a 60cm face. This can be shot any time during the month, and a prize is awarded for each month’s biggest improver. Score sheets can be picked up from the cabinet drawer at any time, and up to date handicaps are printed out as well as found in the members’ area.

We also shoot a monthly Portsmouth (5 dozen arrows, 20 yards, on a 60cm face), which contributes to an AGB classification, awarded at the end of the season. These shoots also make you eligible for Portsmouth badges, which go up in increments of 25 points so are a great way to track progress and add to your badge collection!

We also send in scores to Scottish Archery’s postal league, which are based on the monthly Portsmouth, and league rankings are posted by Scottish Archery each month.

Outdoors, in the winter we shoot a Frostbite, which is 3 dozen arrows at 30m on an 80cm face. The highest score each month (across any bow style) receives a club certificate, while badges can also be earnt, again in increments of 25 points.

During the outdoor season, the monthly shoots continue, but this time they are 6 dozen arrows and can be shot at various distances and various face sizes, depending on your ability. AGB classification badges are awarded at the end of the season. The handicap scheme is also available, for 3 dozen arrows at your chosen distance. Score sheets can be picked up from the container at any time, and up to date handicaps are printed out as well as found in the members’ area.

Both the indoor and outdoor monthly shoots are Scottish Ranking events which means your score gets you a ranking within Scottish Archery. The scores are submitted on your behalf by the club.
