SEPTEMBER 2009
Dear Members,
Greetings from your
much loved Club
President.....................................................
CLUB NEWS
AFFILIATION FEES FOR
2009/2010
As I have been
reminding you for
the last few months
about the above fees
it is now time to
get your wallets and
cheque- books out.
For those of you who
have forgotten here
are the new fees:
SENIOR - £63.00,
JUNIOR £10.00, OAP
£57.00 and Disabled
(junior) £10.00
(senior)
£20.50
I have now received
the new GNAS cards
for 2009/10 so you
can pay your
appropriate fee now.
However, all,
payments must be
received by
NO LATER
than Wednesday 30th
September.
You should give your
payment to JOAN
which can be by cash
or a cheque made
payable to Lasswade
Archery Club. I will
then issue you with
your new card for
2009/10.
Remember to
SIGN your
new card and
DESTROY
your old card for
2008/09.
If you produce an
old card at a
tournament then you
will not be
permitted to shoot.
If you lose your
card please let me
know ASAP so I can
get you a new one.
This will probably
incur a small fee,
which you would have
to pay.
As always, if you do
not pay by the
closing date then as
per GNAS rules your
new card will be
destroyed and you
will have 3 options
to consider: -
1 – You will not be
able to shoot or
this or any other
club for the next
year.
2 – You can join
another club if they
are prepared to re –
affiliate you.
3 – You can apply to
become an Ordinary
Member of GNAS. This
is a more expensive
option and you would
have to arrange this
for yourself
although I can
advise you about
this.
P S. The following
juniors have now
become 18 since the
last round of
affiliations and
will now have to pay
the full £63.00.
They are Ryan Aitken
and Jakub Srsen.
CLUB
COLOURS
For those of you who
have been with us
for some time will
be aware of on-going
saga with regard to
this subject. At
last month’s
committee meeting it
was decided that we
will now adopt Club
Colours and Adelle
has registered our
intentions with
GNAS.
Although a final
design has yet to be
decided the colours
will be red and
black. This was an
idea from Derek as
red and black are
the colours of the
Lasswade Rugby Club,
the Lasswade High
School and Lasswade
itself. In addition,
it has now been
possible for clubs
to register a colour
for lower garments
as well as upper
garments and black
has been chosen as
many other clubs
have done as it is
easier to source and
does not show the
dirt so easily! No
member would be
obliged to wear club
colours but they
should remember that
if they enter a
record status
tournament, as all
the Lasswade shoots
for 2009/10 are,
then they would have
to wear the
regulation colours
of white and/or
plain dark green.
I will provide you
with more details
about the Club
Colours when I have
them.
INDOOR TOURNAMENTS
Now that we are back
indoors the majority
of our members will
come out of their
summer/outdoor
hibernation period
and may decide to
enter some
tournaments
providing they are
at Lasswade and are
20 yard Portsmouth
Rounds!
Whatever tournament
any member decides
to enter then Adelle
is your point of
contact for entries.
You can of course go
onto the SAA website
and download your
own entry form
although tournament
organisers usually
prefer block entries
as opposed to dozens
of single entries,
especially Tina!
Although they are
probably all on our
website here are the
dates for Lasswade
Indoor Tournaments
for 2009/10: -

NEW BEGINNERS’ CLASS
A new beginners’
class will be
starting on Saturday
26th of
September through to
Saturday 31st
October.
As usual the hall
will be divided in
two and your co –
operation will be
appreciated.
Please note that
there will be no
class on Saturday 17th
October. The normal
Club session will
take place but it
will finish early
that night to allow
us time to set up
the hall for the
Combined Fita on the
following
day.
TOURNAMENT REPORT
OUTDOOR CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIPS ( 864
) – AUGUST 30TH
2009-09-02
After a 3 -year
break our Outdoor
Club Championships
took place once
again with the
Western and Short
Junior Western
rounds being shot.
For once the
weathermen were spot
on so apart from a
varying wind the
weather kept dry for
us.
Eleven members took
part with 5 of them
being from our most
recent beginners
class.
The shoot progressed
without any major
problems and after
the first distances
were shot we had a
break for lunch.
After completing the
second distances
members were allowed
to continue shooting
to gain some new
sight marks while I
prepared the results
list.
This year Joan was
our sole lady
recurve and will be
providing
accommodation for
the shield for
another year.
The gent recurve
group was one by
Derek for the first
time since 1984. It
(almost) brought a
tear to my eye!
There were some good
first time scores
from some of our
newer juniors with
our most experienced
junior Gareth taking
the junior shield to
add to his indoor
title back in March.
As I said there were
some good scores
from our other
juniors who have
only joined us
earlier in the year
so this was their
first outdoor
tournament. I am
therefore hoping to
see some good scores
when we move back
indoors.
David R opted to
shoot on “The Dark
Side” this year to
give young (ish)
Billy some
competition on the
compound bow.
However, Billy
managed to retain
the compound shield,
as due to other
commitments David
was not able to get
much outdoor
shooting this
season.
The results were as
follows: -

Tournament report
cont.
As I have already
stated the shoot
went well with the
exception of a minor
point of etiquette
from a nameless
younger member!
Although this was
not an open formal
tournament it should
be remembered that
when an archer has
finished shooting
his/her end of
arrows then he/she
must move off the
shooting – line and
back to the waiting
area without any un
– due talking or
exclamations as this
can disturb the
concentration of
other archers. In a
formal tournament
this would earn a
reprimand or even
dismissal from the
tournament itself by
the judge. However,
we learn by
experience!
Should this happen
again any member
will be made to
write out the GNAS
Rules of Etiquette
ten times in long –
hand! HA! HA!
As I said at the
presentation it was
good to see some of
our newest members
who not only took
part but have also
shot outdoors for
most of the outdoor
season in varying
weather conditions.
I hope this bodes
well for the future.
My thanks to those
of you who took part
and helped set up
the range etc and to
Joan who organised
the barbeque and
lastly to myself!
