(2(Under Article 22d the President shall if required be entitled to cast one additional vote in the event of any tied votes.

(3)There will be no Club session that night.

P.S. Notification of the A.G.M. is also on our notice board and Club website.

ADVERSE WEATHER

The usual seasonal reminder to you all that in the event of heavy snow etc it may be decided by the Sports Centre to close early. If the weather looks bad before you set off contact the Sports Centre on (0131 660 1933) to check on the current situation or, if you are able to, go to the Midlothian Council website. While on the subject of websites can I remind you to check the Club Website on shooting days to ensure that a Club session ha snot been cancelled. There have been 2 occasions recently where our Club was not informed by The Sports Centre of cancelled sessions.

NEW MEMBERS

Greetings to 2 new members :- Katryn Srsen, Katryn is the younger sister of another Club member, Jakub, though obviously she is not as ugly as Jakub. Ha! Ha!

Our second new member is Brian Taylor who I assume is not related to 2 other members, Ruth and James Taylor. Luckily, Ruth and James do not bear any similarity to Brian.

Joking aside, a warm welcome to you both.

NEW BEGINNERS CLASS.

The next class will run on the following dates:- 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd of December (Saturdays).

As with the last class on these nights the hall will be divided in half. The normal members will shoot in the ‘Wednesday Night’ side of the hall and the new starts in the other half. To avoid the confusion of two sets of whistle signals the whistle will be used for the new starts and one of the established members will use verbal commands for their group.

CANCELLED CLUB SESSIONS

As you should all know by now the Club sessions on Saturday 24th and Wednesday 28th of November, have been cancelled. Richard has suggested that, although we will not be able to use the hall on the Saturday any member who is interested can come along to the Sports Centre lounge where we can do any required maintenance on our equipment. If for example you need a new string or would like to see how to make one then this would be a good opportunity to do so. In addition other activities such as arrow fletching could be done or any other things pertaining to archery that members would like to do The session will take place at the usual time and if you want to do anything specific then see Richard.

The following Wednesday session is also cancelled and again you know why!

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS.

The dates for the festive season will be announced when I have them and they should  appear in next month’s newsletter.

TOURNAMENT REPORT

LASSWADE COMBINED FITA (BRS)(1200) SUNDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2007

This was the fist time that we have held a combined FITA and due to the fact that only 44 archers could be accommodated the shoot was full within days of the entry form being posted on the SAA website.

This was the lowest turn out I can remember from Lasswade with only 3 members shooting although a further 2 had to pull out for various reasons. It also underlines the fact that most of our members wet their pants if asked to shoot any distance further than 20 yards! I will not repeat myself by saying apart from Tina, Billy and myself we received no help from the other Lasswade members so thank god we had help from Elayne McLean, Susan Maitland and Gillian Brown of Penicuik AC. or we would probably still be putting up the smaller faces for the 18 metre session!

Makes you think just who runs our shoots ourselves, or Penicuik!

However, the shoot itself went well apart from the fact some of the archers had problems with their score sheets. Tina has promised to make it simpler for next year.As mentioned only 3 members took part and their scores are as follows with the 25m score followed by the 18m score then the combined score:-

Gents Compound (15 entrants)

                       25m          18m           combined

5th    Billy       554            547               1101

9th     James      516            545               1061

14th  Russell    491            425               916

Team Compound  (3 teams)

3rd  Lasswade

Billy                1101

James              1061

Russell              916

Total                 3078

I would like to conclude this report by thanking our 2 judges Derek Sangster and Norrie McLean.

Thanks also to those members who helped get the range set up on the Saturday night.

To Billy and the afore- mentioned ladies of Penicuik AC. and lastly Tina for another successful shoot. After the awards ceremony the archers were asked if they wanted us to hold this round next year. They said yes. Can I request that our good friends from Penicuik AC. could be available to assist us in the probable event we will need them?

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the
top of that tree" sighed the turkey "but I haven't got the energy."
"Well why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. They're
packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found it
actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day after eating some more dung he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night the turkey was proudly perched at the top
of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top but it won't keep you there.

Cheerio!

 Donald.
