THE ARROWHEAD

Issue 154 OCTEBER 2009
Dear Members,
Welcome to your monthly dose of gossip and scandal!-----
CLUB NEWS
ATTENTION ALL JUNION MEMBERS!
By the time you receive this month’s newsletter I hope to have spoken to all on the subject of “The November Challenge”. Those of you who have been with us for the past few years will remember this national event, which is run by the GNAS Junior committee. It is open to all juniors who are divided by sex, age groups and bow types. The round is shot at one club session during November would you believe!
It is a simple round consisting of 3 dozen arrows shot from 20yards onto a 60cm Portsmouth face. This is what you usually shoot at normal club sessions but the only additional thing you do is record your scores. The evening chosen will be Saturday the 22nd of November. So that you all shoot together I would like you all to be ready to shoot at 7.30 pm. and this should give us enough tome to complete the round. Once the round has been shot all score sheets should be returned to me. They will then be sent off to GNAS and we will then wait to see how well you have all done. I would like to stress that none of you have to enter but it will be good experience for you all.
The above tournaments will take place on October19th (FITA Combined) and November 9th 2008 (Portsmouth). I would like to make the usual plea to all our members if they could donate some prizes for the 2 raffles. In addition, I would also be pleased if some of you could help to set up the range and help to take it down again for both tournaments especially the combined FITA as no Lasswade members have entered this shoot which is now full anyway.
Adelle recently put together a new form, which all parents should have received by now. It only takes o few minutes to do and asks for the usual information plus we have also included a question if your child can be filmed / photographed for coaching purposes or for the gallery on the Club’s website. The parent will keep a copy of this form and the Club will keep the original. The details you have provided will be confidential and will not be divulged to any third parties, other than the police or medical personnel should the situation arise. It is important that you also let us know if there are any changes to this information, as this would require you to fill in new form. It is proposed that this information will only be needed if your child is under16 years of age.
All members are cordially invited to attend the next meeting on Thursday 9th October. The usual time and venue will apply.
As I correctly predicted last month, the one-day strike by the public service unions had no effect on their pay dispute whatsoever. The latest information I have is that selective action may be taken. This means that instead of all council staff coming out only certain services will be affected. These services would then be re-instated and other staff brought out perhaps all the sport and leisure centres. To that end, can I remind all members to LISTEN to all announcements at the Club, READ the Club notice board and READ any information on the Club website.
Just the usual pre-winter warning that in the event of heavy snowfalls etc. you should contact the sports centre or Midlothian Councils Website for any closures before you set off.
