Dear Members,

Welcome to the latest edition of your favourite newsletter.

CLUB NEWS

AFFILIATION FEES  - A  FINAL REMINDER.

Just a final reminder that all affiliation fees must be in by Saturday the 27th September. The fees are as follows:-Senior : £60

               Junior:  £10

               OAP  :  £53.50

Disabled  :  Based on our current three members : Seniors  : £19.50

                                                                                           Juniors :  £10

NEW BEGINNERS CLASS

From Saturday the 20th September and for the following 5 Saturdays we will be running a new class. At the time of writing I do not know how many people will be taking part but there will be no more than ten. . Additionally, I do not know if we will be able to split the hall as has been done previously.

TOURNAMENT ENTRIES

May I remind you that if you do not do your own entries then see Adelle about entering tournaments. Adelle is new to the job I do not know how she will take Club entries but I hope however that she will maintain the high standards that I have set!

With regard to tournaments our first shoot will be our Combined FITA in October, the first of five shoots at Lasswade between October and March 2009.I will provide you with more details on the Combined FITA next month but our organiser Tina James has informed me that early entry for this shoot is advisable as there will only be 44 places available.

CLUB WHISTLE.

Towards the end of the last indoor season a new whistle was purchased for use at all our indoor sessions and it is kept in the drawer of the green cabinet. In the event that no one with a whistle attends then an adult member should use the club whistle. It is easy to find as it has a luminous green lanyard and please remember to clean the whistle after you have used it!

Remember the whistle is used to maintain safe shooting conditions so I do not want to find it gathering dust in the drawer!

CANCELLED CLUB SESSION

The Club session on Wednesday 24th September may be cancelled. This is due to strike action by the public services unions and as many of the centre staff are union members it is highly likely that the sports centre will be closed on that day. However at the time of writing no final decision has been made. I would therefore strongly advise members to contact the sports centre on Tuesday 23rd September to conform if the centre will be closed on the 24th. The contact telephone number is 0131 660 1933. If this day of strike does go ahead and the dispute is not resolved then regretfully there could be more sessions lost in the coming months. Again I will keep you all informed of any future developments. I will also get Jack to post a notice on the Club website.

OTHER NEWS

At our recent Committee meeting Billy put forward a suggestion that on Wednesday evenings when he or other coaches are available that one or two bosses at the side of the hall where the trampoline mats are usually stored would set aside for any members who may want some coaching or help with their equipment. It was proposed that this would only be for about an hour. One of our other coaches along with the committee agreed that this would be an idea worth trying.

FRIDAY 29TH AUGUST 2008

LAC were invited to take part in an activities afternoon at Lasswade High School for first and second year pupils organized by the local Police Force.

Derek, Joan, Richard, Adelle and Gareth attended. Eight classes of pupils came to the small gym for 15 minute sessions. Derek began by asking the pupils what they knew about archery, who had experience of archery. He then went on to explain various points of the sport, safety, history, types of bows and other equipment, followed by questions and answers while archery was demonstrated and equipment passed around for pupils to handle. It was a well organized event with well behaved pupils, the local Police thanked us for taking part – you have been warned there might be another one next year!!

And Finally

Paddy’s pregnant sister was in a terrible car accident and went into a deep coma. After being in the coma for six months, she wakes up and sees that she is no longer pregnant. Frantically, she asks the doctor about her baby.

The doctor replies, ‘Ma’am, you had twins…. a boy and a girl. The babies are fine, however, they were poorly at birth and had to be christened immediately so your brother Paddy came in and named them.’

The woman thinks to herself. ‘Oh suffering Jesus, no, not me brother, he’s a fecking clueless idiot…Expecting the worst, she asks the doctor, ’Well, what’s my daughter’s name?’

‘Denise’ says the doctor. The new mother is somewhat relieved, ‘Wow, that’s a beautiful name I guess I was wrong about my brother’, she thought….’ I really like Denise’ Then she asks, ‘What’s the boy’s name?’ The doctor replies ‘Denephew’
