THE ARROWHEAD

ISSUE Nos.158 FEBRUARY 2009
Dear Members,
We have quite a few things to get through this month so lets skip the usual intro and get on with the news.
CLUB NEWS
INDOOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 14TH MARCH 2009
The above shoot will take place on the above date and the round will be another boring Portsmouth. As we have the shoot, refreshments and presentations to get through I would like members to arrive by 6pm for a 6.30pm start. If anyone arrives late they will be allowed to shoot but they will not be allowed to make up for any starters or scoring arrows missed. I will issue all members with a short form indicting if they are going to take part or not. We have ten indoor bosses available so if 20 members or less enter we can shoot in a single wave. If we have 20+ then there will be two waves.
P.S. Would the following members please return their trophy :-
Ladies Joan. Gents David R. Juniors John G.
IMPROVERS SESSIONS
The fortnightly sessions run by Richard and /or Billy have recently started again after the festive break. The next three dates are as follows:-
18th February 4th March 18th March
All these dates are on Wednesday evenings and although most of our juniors shoot on a Saturday evening they are welcome to come along to these sessions if they so wish. Usually 2 bosses are reserved for these sessions.
EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS
To comply with certain recommendations all members will be required to fill in a form I will be handing out which will only take a few minutes to fill in. Once you have done this, the Club will keep your form and issue you with a copy. All the relevant information asked for is on the form and all members under 16 should get a parent to fill in the form. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
POSSIBLE DISRUPTION TO TWO ARCHRY SESSIONS.
The Sports Centre have informed me that on Saturday 7th and 28th of March there will be boxing tournaments. As some of you will remember after these events are finished the staff have to get the games hall and other parts of the building cleaned up of rubbish, blood, jock-straps etc! If everything goes to plan we should be able to have our usual Saturday session. If there are any delays we may have to start late. If that is the case then I will ask the Centre if we can stay till 9.30pm. The other solution will be to have equipment maintenance sessions in the crèche area, and hopefully some shooting. All I can advise is if you are coming on these two evenings then be prepared for the potential problems I have mentioned above.
NEW MEMBER
A warm welcome to John Tarriela. John is pronounced as “Yan” and as you will see he is not from these parts John is originally from the Phillipines and has already done an extensive training course there. He has been checked out by Billy and Richard and is fully competent to shoot. With John’s arrival we now have 3 Johns! To avoid any confusion they will be known as John G (Guest), John R (Ross) and…..
John T (Tarriela).
MY FIFTIETH (50)
I would like to thank the Club for my birthday celebrations on the 21st January. The two cakes (one complete with 50 candles) and the archery watch were very much appreciated. Thanks also to everybody who signed my card. I didn’t know I was so popular! But then again I am sure I saw a few twisted arms caused by Adelle making you sign the card. Ha! Ha! That woman has hidden depths!
LASSWADE INDOOR OPEN 1ST MARCH 2009
Our round this year will be a Double Portsmouth which means 52 archers shooting one Portsmouth in the morning and the same 52 archers shooting another in the afternoon. At the time of writing Tina says there are still some places available and if the full 52 spaces are not filled then it may be opened up for people to shoot a single Portsmouth only. If you want to enter then get your entry in now or see Adelle who is your contact for tournaments. Juniors who enter should be confident they can shoot what will amount to a 10 dozen arrow round. Please also remember that this is a record status shoot so you must wear the correct green / white clothing. Finally, can I please ask as many of you as possible to donate a prize for our raffle.
TOURNAMENT REPORT.
GNAS JANUARY JUNIOR CHALLENGE—31ST JANUARY 2009
Four juniors shot this round, which was a full Portsmouth, and Adelle was the organiser. It is run along the same lines as the November Challenge so as with that round we will have to wait for the Nationwide results to come through. Three new personal bests were shot and scores were as follows:-
1st- Paul (454) NPB / 2nd- James (416) NPB / 3rd- Charles (312)
