Dear Members,

Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter.

CLUB NEWS

OUTDOOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS – SUNDAY , 30TH AUGUST 2009

After a break of three years we will be holding our Outdoor Championships again.

The rounds chosen will be two of the Western rounds and they are as follows: -

WESTERN

This round consists of 4-dozen arrows (each) at 60 yards and 50 yards.

This will be the round shot by the senior members.

SHORT JUNIOR WESTERN

This round consists of the same number of arrows as for the Western round but in this case the 2 distances will be 30 yards and 20 yards.

This will be the round shot by the junior members.

At all distances the full size 122cm target face is used and the score for a perfect round is 864.

As this is an Imperial GNAS round 5-zone scoring is used. In case any new members have not read their information packs or established members have forgotten what 5-zone scoring is here is a simple explanation.

You will all be familiar with 10 zone scoring which is inner GOLD (10 ) outer GOLD ( 9 ) down to outer WHITE ( 1 ). However, when you shoot an Imperial round then the entire GOLD area scores 9, RED 7, BLUE 5, BLACK 3 and WHITE 1.

Six arrow ends are shot, and at the start of the round 6 non – scoring sighter arrows are shot but this is ONLY for the longer of the 2 distances, 60 yards for the seniors and 30 yards for the juniors.

On this subject by the time of the shoot most of you should have a sight mark for the appropriate distances, especially newer members. In other words if you shoot outdoors then once your arrows are grouping reasonably well at a specific distance then make a note of your sight’s position for that distance and for all other distances you will shoot.

This means that when you shoot outdoors next year you will have a list of marks for each distance. However, it is possible that things can change between outdoor seasons if you perhaps get a new bow or arrows for example but if you have a set of sight marks from the 2009 season you will have a basis to work from for the 2010 season.

I will give you more details of the start time for the shoot later in the summer.

THE 2009 OUTDOOR SEASON

Our first session was washed out due to rain and this meant that we were unable to get the field marked out. However this was done the night before our May 13th session and I was pleased to see about 15 members attending including 6 new members from our previous 2 classes. The weather was dry and bright but a bit on the windy side.

When you consider that an average of only 6 members shot outdoors last season this is a major improvement. Keep up the good work!

LASSWADE   V  ASHERTON

Dear Members,

You may remember last summer I asked if anyone would be interested in travelling to Asherton to take part in the Flodden Shoot?

We would travel down on Saturday and stay overnight with Asherton members or you can of course travel down on the Sunday and home again on the Sunday.

If enough members are interested a bus could be hired.

Asherton is only minutes from the centre of Manchester and the club and the date would be Sunday the 13th of September 2009.

The round to be shot is a mystery except to the shoot organiser but the aim is fun and enjoyment of our sport, not a Fita Star or York round.

Next year we would be host to Asherton members providing them with accommodation and organising the shoot.

This would be a practice run for the 500th centenary of the Battle of Flodden, which is going to be a big event with TV coverage and lots of items in the news.

If you are interested then please let me know.  Joan
