CLUB FEES
A reminder to you all that Club fees for 2007/08 will become due on Wednesday 4th April. This will apply to those of us who pay the fee as one-of annual payment. Those of you who pay by the various instalment methods will probably continue to use your choice of payment. As was mentioned a few months ago the Club fees will remain unchanged for 2007/08. If you have any questions, then please see Frank.
CLUB NOTICE BOARD
Yet another reminder to you all that we have a notice board in the hall-way into the shooting range .I am aware that we all pass by it on Wednesdays due to the football in the sports hall but please make the effort to look at it before you come in or when you leave after shooting. I had members asking me for details of our Worcester round which had been on the notice board for at least 6 weeks prior to the shoot!
CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING
All committee members and any other Club members are requested to attend the next meeting on Thursday 29th March at 7.30pm.

LASSWADE ALBION SHOOT
Sunday 3rd JUNE 2007
Our annual Albion round will take place on the above date. The field has been booked and all that is required is for someone to volunteer to be the organiser. Any interested parties should see me no later than Saturday the 21st April. If no one comes forward then the shoot will be cancelled and potential income lost. I am sure most of you will know what that can mean!

Rules of shooting - Part 3
THE BOUNCER AND THE PASS THROUGH.
When you are a beginner and you think your score could be better and the arrows won’t stick in the target, and you want to give up competition. What do you do? The first thing is don’t get worked up about it, relax – take a step back from the shooting line, hold your bow aloft so that you catch the attention of a Judge. Depending on the competition (GNAS rules or FITA rules,) the Judge will do one of two things; if you are shooting a Portsmouth which is 60 arrows at 20 yards and falls within the scope of GNAS, the Judge will ask for your spare arrow, which as a dedicated archer you will always have in your quiver, he will mark the arrow normally by initialling a fletch and before allowing you to shoot it, inform you that he will take part in the scoring of that end, but if when scoring the Judge finds that all three of your original arrows found the target along with the forth that he marked you will be penalised by losing the value of your highest scoring arrow. If you have an arrow pass through the target during a GNAS round as long as part of the arrow remains in the target you will be awarded that score but should there be no sign at all then I’m afraid you will score a MISS.
If the round being shot is a FITA you will have been informed at the start of the shoot that the position of all arrow holes must be marked. The reasoning behind this is that should you have a bouncer then you take a pace back from the shooting line and hold your bow aloft. When the Judge approaches you inform him you have had a bouncer, when all competitors have shot their arrows you and the Judge will go to the target and look for an arrow hole that has not been marked. When it is found you will be awarded that score, but should there be more than one unmarked hole you will be awarded a Miss. So remember to mark these holes, it’s for your benefit. You will then return to the shooting line and under the control of that Judge shoot any remaining arrows in that end. The above rule also applies to an arrow passing through the target, where the archer will be awarded the value of the unmarked hole.

TOURNAMENT REPORT
LASSWADE OPEN DOUBLE WORCESTER
(BRS)(600) – MARCH 24TH 2007
Our annual Worcester round was ‘promoted’ to a double round this year to take advantage of the fact that there were several unclaimed Scottish records for a double Worcester. Although the number of entrants was limited to 52 by the closing date for entries the few remaining double spaces were given to archers wishing to shoot a single morning or afternoon round although this was on the understanding that all awards made were for the double round only.
Eleven Lasswade archers took part with some good scores shot. Our most notable achievements came from Jake and Ambar who shot new Scottish records. John G. and his wee brother Paul shot new personal bests for a single round with Paul breaking his previous personal best at both sessions! Amongst the senior members Mark also shot a personal new best at the morning session. Thanks are due to the Club members who helped get the range set up on the Saturday night, and those members (very few) who helped get everything away at the end of the day. Thanks also to Susan and Elayne of Penicuik AC whose help was invaluable.
At the presentation the archers were asked if they liked the double round or changing the shoot to a Combined FITA for next year. Most of them preferred the double Worcester so this will be your chance to beat your own records next year. Before the presentation ended a small gift was presented to Tina for her efforts as our tournament organiser for the past ten plus years. Oh! Thanks again to Derek who was the senior Judge and his assistant Elinor Wilson.
The results for the Lasswade members were as follows. In addition to the positions, I have also listed the morning scores (AM), the afternoon scores (PM), and the combined double scores:-

AND FINALLY.
‘V’ For Victory. This item which has appeared in the past, was originally submitted by Joan.
In the United States it signifies ‘Victory’, or ‘Peace’, but here in Britain if the palm faces inwards, it’s a taunt especially if the gesture is executed with an upward jerk of the fingers.
More than 650 years ago the French are said to have disabled English archers they captured in battle by cutting off their middle and forefingers. In the aftermath of Agincourt and Crecy, where the French were heavily defeated triumphant English soldiers gloated over the French prisoners by holding up their hands, first two fingers upright, palm inwards, to show both fingers fully intact.
