LASSWADE ARCHERY CLUB NEWSLETTER

ISSUE NO. 174/176 JUNE/AUGUST 2010

Dear Members,
Now that the outdoor season is finished we can now get back to normal which means the majority of you will come out of your Summer Slumbers!

CLUB NEWS
ARCHERY WORLD CUP – 2010 “ COME AND TRY SESSIONS”18TH/ 19TH SEPTEMBER / UP – DATE

I begin this item with an apology. I was under the impression that the actual tournament will take place in the West Gardens while the Come and Try Sessions are to be held in the East Gardens. Both events however will take place in the East Gardens. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Since my last up-date in May things have moved on and I have now received a set of protocols for the 2 sessions that we will be running on Saturday the 18th.

All members who have said they will attend will have been given a copy of the protocols by me and if they have any questions then please see me and I will get them answered as I may have some to ask myself.

We are nearly down to the minimum we need to run the sessions as two members have already pulled out. If any more of you cannot attend then please let me know ASAP.

CLUB POLO SHIRTS

By now most of you will have received your shirts. There are still 3 which have not been claimed so I have put them in the inside store. If they are not claimed then they will be sold to any new or existing members who wish to purchase them. Some of you may remember that I offered a small prize to the first member who could get their photo on to the Club’s Website Gallery wearing the new Club Colours and the black trousers. To date nobody has done this so I am now advising you that this offer has now been withdrawn. I don’t know why I bother.

AFFILIATION FEES FOR 2010/2011

A reminder to you all, that the above fees must be paid by Wednesday the 29th of September.
As I mentioned in the May issue of “The Arrowhead” the fees remain un-changed from last year.
They are as follows:-

SENIOR - £63.00.    JUNIOR  - £10.00.   OAP’S - £57.00.   DISABLED – TBA

From this year onwards there have been some changes in the affiliation forms sent to us.

They now include your current address details and when the total payment for the Club has been received you will be sent your new cards DIRECT TO YOUR CURRENT HOME ADDRESSES. Therefore it is more important than ever that you notify the Club of any changes ASAP or if you have not received your new cards for 2010/2011.
In addition, all over 18’s have now been requested to list their dates of birth so when you give us your payment I can put your details on the forms, which will get returned along with your fees.

You can pay in cash or by a cheque made payable to the Club but whichever method you choose all payments must be received by the above closing date as failure to do so will incur the usual penalties so check your copy of the Club Constitution for the appropriate information. I am quite sure you all still have one!

P.S.  Before closing this item I have some important information for Club Members who did not renew their Club fees in April.
It has been common practise to allow such members to shoot with the Club until their current affiliation fees have run out. I was advised recently that this is not acceptable and as a consequence of this if any non-members who wish to carry on shooting will have to become direct members of GNAS. Not only is this a more expensive option but they would also have to arrange any re-affiliations themselves.

CLUB TARGET BOSSES

Due to a shortage of good quality straw Quicks Archery have advised me that they will not be able to deliver our new bosses until January/February 2011 and I know that some members had expressed an interest in taking some of our old indoor bosses away.

I think I have spoken to the interested parties involved and have advised them that the current bosses will have to remain with the Club until advised otherwise.
When I placed our order in July there were 300+ bosses on order nationwide with that number rising.

NEW BEGINNERS CLASS

A new class will be starting on Saturday 25th of September and this will involve 3 or possibly 4 bosses being allocated for the new class so you may have to bunch up on the remaining bosses. If there are a lot of members it may not be possible to shoot in a single wave for each end so be prepared to shoot in 2 waves if required.
I do not want any members, especially juniors, coming whining to me about this or standing around expecting me to tell them what to do. Remember, you were all beginners yourselves at one time.

CANCELLED CLUB SESSION

Due to the September holiday there will be NO ARCHERY on Saturday the 18th.
The Centre will be open that day but they will be closing early.

OTHER NEWS

Congratulations to Susan Maitland of Penicuik Archers who will be known to some of you.
Susan will be shooting as a member of the Scottish Archery Team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games which are taking place in Dehli later this year.
On behalf of the Club we wish her well.
