ISSUE NO. 126/127 June

Dear Members,

No waffle this month so straight to the news CLUB NEWS

OUTDOOR CLUB SESSIONS FOR 2006

The Club committee would like to thank the majority of members who attended outdoor sessions throughout the month of May. The third Wednesday of the month saw a low of 8 members attend due to the fact it was wet that night but they still opted to shoot. By contrast the weather on the last Wednesday was excellent with 24 members attending. I can't remember when we last had that many at an outdoor session. Keep up the good work!

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

A reminder to all members that the Club continues to shoot throughout the summer school holidays.

OUTDOOR SATURDAY SESSIONS

This subject was discussed at our committee meeting in May and as already decided they will not take place as previously reported. P.S. It is interesting to note that 2 members who wanted the Saturday sessions have so far on Wednesdays made no attempt to arrive early and/or stay behind to help put the equipment away. Nuff said!!!!

OUTDOOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS After a break of 3 years it was decided to hold our outdoor Club Championship shoot on Sunday 20th August. The round to be shot will be an American round, which is 30 arrows at each distance of 60, 50 and 40 yards. As with the Albion round 5 zone scoring will be used and the full 122cm face is used at all 3 distances.

More details of the round will appear Ğl the August edition of "The Arrowhead".

JUNE/JULY 2006

TOURNAMENT REPORT

LASSWADE OUTDOOR OPEN (972) 4th June 2006

Organizer:- Joan Smith

Field Captain :- Donald Cameron

Lady paramount:- Sandra Harrison

After a 2 year break it is thanks to Joan who decided to run our Albion round which attracted an entry of 45 archers which was higher than some previous years. As I had given up running open shoots due to the usual lack of support from non shooting members Joan had the novel idea of getting the archers who attended to help get the range set up hoping that a small entry fee and a barbeque would tempt them out. Suffice to say most of them did not help so this will have to be taken into account if the shoot is to be held again in 2007 and beyond. In addition to myself, Joan Frank, David R, Jack, Billy and Sandra we did receive help from a few visitors including Josie Herd and our old sparring partner Bill M from Balbardie Archers.

Joan had arrived early as her other half John had brought the barbeque equipment and a gazebo.

The whole range, 12 targets in all was set up in an hour with the shoot starting at 10.30am.The shoot had no problems and the weather was kind to us being slightly cool and overcast but becoming warmer as the shoot progressed.

Although we did not win any trophies this year 2 place medals were won by Joan and David R and an U16 medal by Ambar . In the compound gents group Billy took 7th and Frank was further behind but shot a very respectable score.

The scores shot by David R, Frank and Jack

were all new personal bests.

Thanks to Joan and Billy for organizing the

barbecue and to David R who assisted me

with the scoring.

Thanks also to Frank and Sandra who also

acted as Lady Paramount and a few visiting

archers who helped get the range taken down

and all the equipment stored away.

From JOAN :-

"Hope all Lasswade Archers had a good day and enjoyed themselves. Thanks to everyone who helped set up and dismantle the range. Special thanks to Donald for being an excellent field captain, Billy for bringing the tent and David for helping with the results, as for ME muggings, ended up cooking B.B.Q.

Would like to see more Lasswade members entered next year."

World Cup News.

It is just before England v Brazil match. Ronaldinho goes into the Brazilian dressing room to find all his team-mates looking a bit glum. "What's up?" he asks. "Well we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only England. They're c**p and we can't be bothered."

Ronaldinho looks at them and says, "Well I reckon I can beat them by myself-you lads go down the pub."

So Ronaldinho goes out to play England by himself and the rest of the Brazilian team go for a few jars.

After a few pints they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads

"Brazil 1 - England 0 (Ronaldinho 10 minutes)". He is beating England all by himself.

A few pints later the game is forgotten until someone remembers, "it must be full time by now, lets see how he got on." They put the teletext on.

"Results from the Stadium:-Brazil 1 (Ronaldinho 10 minutes) England 1 (Lampard 89 minutes) " They can't believe it, he has single-handedly got a draw against England!! They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate Ronaldinho. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sitting with his head in his hands. He refuses to look at them. "I've let you down, I've let you down." Don't be daft you got a draw against England, all by yourself. And they only scored at the very, very end!" "No, no I have let you down... I got sent off after 12 minutes."
