Dear Members,
After all the Festive excesses I hope you are all ready to enter the second half of the indoor season with a degree of enthusiasm!

CLUB NEWS
OUTDOOR VENUE
Shortly before Christmas, Derek announced to the Club that our proposal to shoot at the second piece of ground at the Broomieknowe Golf Club had been rejected. As with the previous location the ground was inspected by senior judge Norrie Mclean and was safe to use subject to certain conditions. I do not propose going into the concerns the golf club had here but I would on behalf of our Club like to thank Derek, Norrie and Bill Mackay for all their efforts. At the time of preparing this edition I will, if time permits, be looking at another possible venue and I will up-date you as required.

CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING
Brethren are requested and required to attend the next meeting on the 19th of this month in Room B4 of the High School.

TOURNAMENT REPORTS
I have rather neglected this section recently and I had hoped to bring things up to date in last month’s newsletter but as it ran to 4 pages I decided to hold off until this month.
For those new members who have not seen this section before (and those of you who do not read it at all!) this section contains reports on all the tournaments that have taken place at Lasswade or other internal events such as David R’s Handicap Round, Club Championships etc. in recent months provided that members have actually taken part.
So we will kick off with the following....................

LASSWADE OPEN COMBINED FITA (UKRS) – 16TH OF OCTOBER 2011
For those of you un – familiar with this round it consists of the entered archers shooting         5 dozen arrows at 25m on a 60cm target face and after a break for lunch another 5 dozen arrows at 18m on a 40cm target face. Not many of our members shoot rounds like this           as they have a fear/hatred of shooting anything smaller than a 60cm target face!
Therefore this report is dedicated to Phil.

The shoot progressed without incident and thanks again to our organiser Tina.

LASSWADE OPEN PORTSMOUTH (UKRS) – 13TH OF NOVEMBER 2011
A slightly better turnout with 5 members entering this year and 3 medals won.                      It is however disappointing that more members did not enter as un-like the Fita round this round is well liked by many members and under - lines the fact that our Club consists mainly of “social archers” now.
So well done to those of you who took part and your results were as follows:-

EASTERN AREA JUNIOR, NOVICE AND YOUNG ADULTS LEAGUE  - 2011/2012
                 ROUND – 1  BALBARDIE ARCHERS – NOVEMBER 4TH – 2011
After the success of this league during the last indoor season the Eastern Area decided to run it once again with Novice archers shooting the Portsmouth Round (600) and the Juniors shooting what has been dubbed an “Eastern Round” (360) which is 3 dozen arrows with all the archers shooting a 60cm target face at 20 yards.
A full report has been put up on the Club notice board and it seems to have been enjoyed by all who entered.
Yet again, a poor response from Lasswade but at least we had one first and 2 second places from Lewis, Ian S and Paul in addition to the their team places.

Due to the fact we only had 3 juniors entered Lewis was paired with Jaime Lowe of    Penicuik Archers so another team could be formed.
Well done to you all and onwards to Round 2 on the 14th of February.

 

GNAS NOVEMBER CHALLENGE ROUND – 2011

This is an annual round which is run for all junior archers in the UK and is the same round used in the Eastern Area League. All the scores submitted are then grouped by gender, age and bow type. This meant instead of shooting a session at Lasswade the scores for the  Eastern Area League could be used for this round as well.
To encourage our junior members to enter we also use the scores to run an internal Club round as well with the Club’s “Apple Trophy” being awarded to our top scoring junior member with all the top 3 receiving a Club medal as well. So this year’s top 3 (the only3)
are as follows:-

1st   Ian S   (211)   Apple Trophy and Medal.

2nd  Lewis (180)    Medal.

3rd  Paul    (168)    Medal.

Hopefully, the full national results will be published soon and well done again to our boys.

 

CLUB HANDICAP ROUND
 
The same 6 members from November also submitted scores for the December round.
Our organiser David R is disappointed with the turnout but as only one third of the Club is shooting since we moved back indoors this is not surprising.
The handicap trophy will be retained by the Shepherd family, with Paul succeeding mummy Jane as the latest holder. Scores as follows with the November positions in brackets:-
