LASSWADE ARCHERY CLUB NEWSLETTER

ISSUE NOS. 169 JANUARY 2009

Dear Members,

I hope you have now recovered from your New Year hangovers and are ready to worry those inner ten rings again!

CLUB NEWS
APOLOGIES

I am sorry that those of you who turned out on Wednesday 30th were turned away due to the Centre giving our booking to another group. This was due to the following details. Earlier in the month I was notified by the Centre that at the time they did not know if they would be open due to the enforced annual leave that many of us council workers had to take. Experience has taught me that when you cannot get a definitive answer from the Centre it is usually better to assume the worst and cancel the proposed session and this is what I said to the manager. As I stated last month just before starting the December newsletter I was informed that the Centre would be open that night so I told them we would shoot that night as originally intended. For some unknown reason they did not remember this and promptly cancelled the session. I am well aware that the weather was terrible that night so once again I offer my apologies to those concerned.

My second apology is for the lateness of the December edition. Although notified, for some reason the Webmaster did not put up this edition until 05/01/10 which means that some of the items therein will be out-of date.

At the AGM in November Phil Williams (the nice man who destroys new Club arrows) offered to do a new Website for the Club and he also offered to take over the post of Club Webmaster and his generous offer was accepted by the meeting. So I hope that newsletters and events etc will be put up when he receives them and not when they become out-of –date as seems to happen at the moment.

As I have said to the current Webmaster it is pointless having a website if it is not up-dated and I expect that if someone no longer wants to do a job then they should let me know as I am sick and tired of having to apologise to members about matters such as this.

LASSWADE INDOOR OPEN – MARCH 7TH 2010

In a previous newsletter I stated that this round had been changed from a Double Fita 18 to a Double Portsmouth round. I am now advising you that this decision has been reversed and that consequently the round will remain as a Double Fita 18. I am sure those of you who are thinking about entering this round will be over the ‘moon’ as I just know you love shooting at those 40cm faces!

I will provide you with more details on this shoot nearer the time and remember that this is a Lasswade shoot so we will be grateful for any donations for the raffle.

CHANGING YOUR ADDRESS?

If you change your address can you let us know so we can notify G N A S. If they are not made aware of this then any correspondence such as Archery UK will go to your old address. If you leave the Club to join another Club then the secretary of your new club must arrange your affiliation details to G N A S.

ARCHERY UK MAGAZINE

Just the occasional reminder that if you have read your copies of AUK and do not want to keep them then I would be grateful if you could pass them on to me so I can pass them on to newer members who have still to receive their own copies. If there are more than one of you living at the same address and you do not want to receive the additional copies then you can notify GNAS and they will stop sending you any un-wanted copies.

If you have been with the Club since the beginning of 2009 then I would also like to know if you are receiving your copies of AUK. If not then please let me know if this is the case as you are paying for AUK through your affiliation fees. The winter edition for 2009 was sent out in December.

TOURNAMENT ENTRIES

I am still not sure as to why some members keep asking me if they have been entered into tournaments. As I have said before all your enquiries should be addressed to Adelle who does this job unless you have done your own entry. If you go to the SAA website and look at the tournament you have entered then you may see an on- going target list for the tournament.

While on the subject of tournaments after the Eastern Area shoot this month there will be 2 more tournaments at Lasswade, the SAA Indoor Championships on February 7th which is a Fita 18 and our own indoor round on March 7th which is a Double Fita 18 so again I would like some of you to help get the equipment set up and put away at both events. There are 2 things to remember about these events. First, both these events have Record Status so you will have to wear the appropriate clothing.

Secondly, these shoots are both liable for drug testing so if any juniors enter then their parent or guardian MUST sign the entry form to consent to this if a test is required.

P.S. At the time of writing this newsletter Adelle was still awaiting swatch samples for our Club colours.
