Dear Children,

Are we all sitting comfortably? Then we shall begin….

LASSWADE OPEN DOUBLE WORCESTER

 4TH MARCH 2007 (BRS)

Our annual Worcester round takes place on the above date. The Club session on the Saturday evening will finish at 8.30 pm so we can get the range set up for Sunday. It would be appreciated if some of the members could stay behind to assist with the setting up of the range as we must be out of the hall by 9.30 pm, and lets see if as many of you as possible can donate a prize for our raffle.

If you have entered this shoot then please remember to bring your GNAS card, as you will not be allowed to shoot otherwise. On the day of the shoot the judges will explain the rules of this round for those who have not shot the round before. However, to help you here are the rules for the Worcester round.

There will be twelve ends and five arrows each end, 60 arrows in total. You will have 5 minutes to shoot your five arrows. Scoring 5 (the white spot), then 4,3,2,1 outwards from the white spot. The top score is 300, unlike other rounds that you have shot, rotation will not apply, so if your target has A, B, C and D archers A, and B will always shoot first then C and D will shoot their arrows.

WARNING!!!

When 30 arrows have been shot (half distance) the archer who has shot on face A will move DOWN to face C and the archer who shot on face C will move UP to face A.

Archers B and D will do the same. If you continue to shoot at your original face none of you arrows will score.

Unlike the Portsmouth round when starting this round you will only have one end of 5 sighting arrows.

Remember this is a Record Status shoot so you will have to wear the appropriate green and or white garments. Those of you who have an Eastern Area top will also be able to shoot but remember your trousers etc. will still have to be regulation colours. If you have any questions then please feel free to ask an expert (Me) of Derek (when he’s here) or Frank (if you’re desperate)!

P.S. Some of you will have shot this round before but remember this year it is a double round so you will shoot in the morning and after a break for lunch you will shoot again in the afternoon. You should all retain the same target places for both sessions. Please remember you will need at least 6 good arrows, 5 plus one spare, but bring all your arrows any-way. If any of your arrows need new nocks or fletches then please get this done as soon as possible, not the night before.

INDOOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

17TH MARCH 2007

This year’s Club Championships will take place on the above date and the round will be a Portsmouth.

The hall will be available to us from 6pm. and the shoot will start at 6.30pm.prompt. Any-one who arrives late will be allowed to shoot but they will NOT be allowed to make up any lost ends or shoot extra arrows to catch up. GNAS dress regulations will NOT apply and there will be NO entry fee.

As always I will prepare a target list but I will need to know who will be coming on the night so attached to this newsletter you will find an entry form. Please fill it in and return it to me stating if you will or will not be attending. It must be returned to me by no later than Saturday the 10th March. If the form is not returned I will assume that you will not be attending.

Would the following members please return their quaiches on or before the day of the shoot:

Ladies – Joan, Gents – David R ,  Juniors – Tomas, and Compound – Billy.

P.S. I know some of you like to keep a record of your own scores so please do this when you are not shooting. Last year the results were delayed due to some members copying their entire scores from their score-sheets to their score- books. The quicker I get your completed score-sheets the quicker we can get the awards presented. Remember, we must be out of the hall by 9.30pm. As some of you are told at tournaments all score-sheets must have all your hits and golds added up and make sure you sign your score-sheet. Any totals not added up will mean your score will not be counted. Once your score-sheet has been signed you cannot change scores etc. Happy shooting!

CLUB CONSTITUTION

By the end of this month all club members will have received a copy of the new Club Constitution. This means your current copy (which I am sure you will have) headed “as amended on 28th November 2001”should be destroyed and replaced with the new edition headed “As amended on 29th November 2006”. Please note that everyone will receive a paper copy as it will not appear on the Club’s web site.

The new edition was prepare and agreed at the 2006 AGM. To allow for the fact that the system for Club fees was changed in April 2006.So under the heading of “Annual Fees” won page 2 (previously “Subscriptions”) you will see that ARTICLES18 and 19 have had to be completely rewritten. So read these sections carefully and keep your copy of the Constitution for future reference.

SHOOTING AT PENICUIK

All members are hereby notified that the arrangement where by you shoot at the Penicuik Club during our closedown at our expense has now been ended. You can still go there but you will have to pay your own target fee.

FROM THE ARCHIVES

Rules of Shooting- Part 2.

Following on from the January issue here is the second of three parts submitted by Watty Wyse.

THE WHISTLE AND TIME CONTROL

So that everyone is aware of when to approach the line and when to shoot we make use of a whistle and a set of signals. The signals are different from a FITA round to that of a GNAS round and you should make yourself aware of these, they are:

FITA

Two Blasts    Approach the shooting line (first detail). One Blast   Start shooting.

Two Blasts    Approach the shooting line (second detail).   One Blast    Start shooting.

Three Blasts     Both details proceed to target and score your arrows.

GNAS

One Blast    The first detail approaches the shooting line and starts to shoot. When the archer has shot his/her three arrows they retire from the line and the archer from the second detail takes up position and shoots their three arrows. When the line is clear the Judge will give :-Two Blasts  Proceed to target and score your arrows.

Rules of shooting cont.:-

Should you loose an arrow before the signal to start shooting or after the signal to stop has been given, you will loose the value of your highest scoring arrow.

TIMING.

Here again we have conflict with FITA and GNAS regarding the timing of ends. FITA states quite clearly that an archer will be allowed two minutes to shoot three arrows, this also applies to Record Status shoots under GNAS rules but at non - Status shoots the archer is allowed two minutes thirty seconds to shoot three arrows.

P.S. As a follow –up to Watty’s item I would also like to inform some of our newer members with regard to visual time control, which is sometime used in conjunction with whistle control. If you ever enter our Portsmouth tournament in November (for example) you will see a small box at each end of the shooting line

consisting of red, amber and green lights. These light boxes are connected to a control box, which is activated by the Judge as soon as he/she gives the whistle blast to commence. Let us assume you have two minutes to shoot three arrows. Upon hearing the signal to shoot the lights will be set at green. After one minute and thirty seconds has elapsed the lights will change to amber. You now have thirty seconds to shoot any remaining arrow(s). Once the last thirty seconds have elapsed the lights will change to red the Judge will give the whistle signal in conjunction with the red light to indicate that the end is concluded. If you have not shot any arrows by this time then you will not be permitted to shoot them. The only exception will be if you have an equipment failure. If this happens let the Judge know by stepping back from the line and holding your bow aloft and providing your problem can be solved quickly you will be allowed to shoot any remaining arrows under his/her supervision.
