ISSUE NOS. 168 DECEMBER 2009

Dear Members,

Welcome to the final issue of " The Arrowhead " for 2009 and the run up to Christmas, Xmas, Crimbo or whatever you choose to call it.

CLUB NEWS

CLUB SESSIONS FOR DECEMBER 2009 AND EARLY 2010

By now all active members will have received a paper copy listing the above dates.

As we are badly affected this month I thought it would be easier to give you this complete list rather than put it on the website which some of you don’t read anyway!

I do have one piece of good news however. The session for Wednesday 30th which was listed as cancelled will now take place as just before starting this edition the Sports Centre staff were finally told that they would be open on that day as normal.

NEW MEMBERS

Our latest beginners’ class finished at the end of October and out of a class of 11 five have signed up and joined us, some of them will already be known to you. Our 4 new gents are as follows. Jim Bradford (Robbie’s daddy), Ian Hunter, Scott Newton and David Newton (Scott’s daddy). In addition we also have a new junior girl, Alexis Wightman (the baby sister of Vanessa). Around about the same time we were also joined by Phil Williamson who came back to the sport after an 18year break. Phil had a brief time using Club equipment and before moving on to his own gear he achieved his first Robin Hood shot. It’s just a pity he destroyed 2 new club arrows in the process! He now has his own equipment and has moved over to the "Dark Side" where he is receiving guidance from Billy Vader! On behalf of the Club a toasty welcome to them all. Well it makes a change from a warm welcome!

With the new intake we now have 2 Davids and 2 Ians so to avoid any confusion if they are mentioned in the newsletter I will use their first name and the capital letter of their surnames. Thankfully we only have one Phil, as any more could be expensive!

LASSWADE ARCHERY CLUB 31ST AGM - NOVEMBER 25TH 2009

This year 11 members attended which is nearly one third of the Club membership and an improvement on recent years. As always several topics were discussed.

ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS

Under the current system only 2 posts became vacant, that of Secretary ( Adelle ) and Trophy Officer ( Me ). As no nominations were received then Adelle and myself were duly elected for a 3year term until 2012. However, as our current Vice President Frank Harrison has had to give up the sport Billy was proposed to finish Frank’s term of office and he duly accepted and will hold this post until the AGM in 2010.

CLUB FEES

The Club fees for 2009/10 will remain at the current levels.

CLUB COLOURS

As you will be aware red and black have been chosen so our tops will have a red body with black collars and sleeves. Trousers and lower garments will be black as already reported.

We may also look into the option of having the club name on the back and possibly the club badge on the front although as was suggested the current green badge may not look too good against the red so we may keep the current design but change the colours.

It is now a matter of contacting the suppliers to see about the potential cost and how many items would need to be purchased.

NEW EQUIPMENT

On the subject of new equipment it was discussed and agreed that a laptop and a camera would be purchased which could be used for coaching sessions and for tournament spreadsheets and results. Somebody is to look into the cost of these items.

THE JIM COULL TROPHY

This year the trophy was awarded to Billy Stewart in recognition of his long service to the Club and the " missionary work " he has done for compound archery and the promotion of relations between Field and Target archery.

I think that covers most of the topics discussed.

SAA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – CLUNY CLAYS , FIFE – 7TH DECEMBER 2009

I am sure most of you will be able to read the AGM report on the SAA Website.

The most obvious question you will want to know is will the SAA fees be increased?

The answer is no! Due to the current financial state of things it was decided to leave the fees at the current levels.

After the formal meeting ended a short presentation was given by Lana Needham of Links Archers on the trip the Scottish Squad made to India earlier this year which was also a good idea of what things will be like at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi with regard to temperature, humidity etc. Part of the film was devoted to the Bronze Medal shoot – off and one of the awards ceremonies and it was good to see a few familiar faces such as Susan Maitland of Penicuik Archers. WOW! NICE LEGS SUSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GNAS NOVEMBER JUNIOR CHALLENGE ( 360 )

Adelle was the organiser this year for this U k wide 3dozen arrow round shot at a 60cm Portsmouth face.

All the scores shot are sent to the GNAS Junior Committee who group all the junior archers by sex, age and bow – type with the full results appearing in the New Year.

This year 10 of our juniors entered and to make it a bit more interesting Club medals were awarded as we made it a tournament within a tournament. The following scores were shot and as a comparison I have included the scores for last year where appropriate for those juniors who took part in the 2008 round.

1st – Gareth ( 350 ) ( 249 )
