LASSWADE ARCHERY CLUB 28TH AGM WEDNESDAY 29th NOVEMBER.2006
![]()
This years AGM was attended by 12 out of a total of 42.
The committee remains virtually un-changed and is as follows:-
President – D Cameron.
Vice-President – Vacant.
Secretary – J Smith.
Treasurer – F Harrison.
Records Officer – D Raeburn.
Junior Rep. – J Feeley.
Equipment Officer – D Sangster.
Club Webmaster – J Feeley.
Ordinary members – R Aiken
A McCall
W Stewart.
Co-opted Coaches – D Sangster
R Vallis.
One subject debated was my draft proposal to change Article 19 of the Club’s Constitution. This article covers the Club’s fees and had to be changed due to our new system of Club fees. After agreeing to some changes my proposal was accepted by the meeting.
Articles 17 and 18 were also amended and all members will receive a new copy of the Constitution in due course. This means that the current edition of the Constitution headed “As amended on 28th November 2001”should be destroyed when you receive your new edition which will be headed ”As amended on 29th November 2006”. Our financial position remains healthy and no increase in Club fees was requested. A proposal to bring income to the Club was to revive our European League. Coaching also came up with a suggestion to have one Saturday a month dedicated to coaching. These proposals will probably be discussed at the next committee meeting in January. A copy of the AGM minutes and written reports by Frank and myself will appear on the notice board. Copies can be made if any member requests one as they will not appear on the website.

After the meeting the Jim Coull Trophy
was awarded to Frank Harrison in recognition of his work for the Club in the past year.
LASSWADE OPEN PORTSMOUTH 12 NOVEMBER 2006
As you will be aware due to the Sports Centre having no evidence of receiving our booking we had to cancel the shoot at short notice.
I can now inform you that the shoot has been rebooked and that I have confirmation of this. The revised date will be the 14th January 2007 one week before the Eastern Area Shoot on the 21st of January 2007.
All members who entered previously will automatically be re-entered for the new date and on the specified choice of the morning or afternoon will be the same. Any member who cannot attend on the 14th January should see Tina who will give them a refund on their entry fee.
Can I please ask you again, if you have not already done so, to make some donations for the raffle. You may perhaps some unwanted Christmas gifts! At the time of writing this item (mid November) I have to inform you that the entry form for the Eastern Area shoot has been sent off.
BEGINNERS CLASS
Our latest class ended at the start of last month and all of the five pupils who attended have now joined us.
So a warm welcome to James Buchanan, John Dick, Barbara Maquire and two juniors Gary Dick and Gareth Fleming. With the arrival of John this means our club quota of Johns has now gone up to 3and we have also gained another James. To save any confusion if they are mentioned in any future newsletters(as the established ones will know) the y will be known as follows :- John Dick(John D),John Guest(John G) and John Pelan(John P) .Our two James’ will be known as James Buchanan(James B) and James Taylor(James T). Hardly rocket science is it?
P.S. Shortly after I wrote this article we were joined by another new senior member, Steve Jones who had just completed a beginners’ course with another club, so again another warm welcome to Steve.
CLOSURE OF SPORTS CENTRE
(UP-DATE)
As I reported in the previous newsletter the floor in the games hall is to be replaced. The latest information I have received, although subject to change, is that our last club session will fall on the 27th January 2007 with a restart on Saturday the 24th February 2007.
Rather than shut down the Club sessions completely we are looking into other options elsewhere in the building. Although apart from some short distance bow tuning we may be restricted to bow maintenance and other non- shooting activities. Even these options may be restricted as in addition to the games hall floor other facilities such as the toilets and changing rooms will also be up-graded.
February was chosen for various reasons especially as the school is on Holiday during part of the month. (Oh God! Not another school Holiday!)
However, if you can’t survive without your weekly fix of shooting then you can go through to our good friends at Penicuik on Friday nights and Sunday mornings. If you choose to shoot at the Penicuik Club remember to take your GNAS card ,and you must have your own equipment. Finally, be on your best behaviour and conform to Penicuik’s way of doing things.

CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING
All Club members are respectfully requested to attend the meeting on Thursday 11th January at 7.30pm.
THE NOVEMBER CHALLENGE
Eight junior members entered this 3 dozen arrow round which is a national one off yearly competition for archers under the age of 18. It will be some time. It will be some time before the full results are through and David R was also able to use the scores shot to work out a handicap system for the ladder challenge round which took place the following week.
All juniors who took part in the November challenge are grouped according to age gender and bow type so there will be awards made in the various groups.
For information only here are the scores for our juniors with 360 being the maximum score possible.

RUTH TAYLOR’S
Christmas Fruit Cake Recipe.
Ingredients:
Cup of water
2oz of dried fruit
1 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of salt
8oz nuts
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon of baking soda
8oz butter
Lemon juice
1 bottle of whisky

don’t tell daddy.
Method:
Sample the whisky to check for quality.
Take a large bowl.
Check the whisky again to be sure it is of the highest quality-pour one level cup and drink.
Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer: beat 2oz butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one cup of sugar and beat again.
Make sure the whisky is still okay. Cry another cup. Turn off the mixer. Break two bowls and add to the eggs and chuck in some fruit.
Mix on the turner. If the dried fruit gets stuck in the beaters, pry loose with a drewsriver.
Sample the whisky again to check for tonsistency. Next sift two cups of calt or something. Who cares? Check the whisky.
Now sift the lemon and strain your nuts. Add a tablespoon of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven, turn the cake tin 350degrees.Don’t forget to beat the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window . Check the whisky again and go to bed.
Next day, take three aspirins and go to Marks &Spencer.
