LASSWADE ARCHERY CLUB NEWSLETTER

ISSUE NO. 192 DECEMBER 2011

Dear Members,

Well, it’s nearly that time of the year again, Christmas, Xmas, Crimbo or whatever you call it plus goodwill to Club Presidents. Anyway, enough of the guff and on to this month’s bumper edition which also contains a few references to that nice man Phil!

CLUB NEWS

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS

I have already emailed or spoken to you about our sessions during the Festive Season and a notice has also been on the board since the end of November so here is the written version for all of you to enjoy once again!

2011

The LAST Club session will be on Thursday the 29th of December. Some of you were keen to shoot through the holiday period so I asked the Centre if they could accommodate us. This was confirmed and a booking was made. Due to the holidays the Centre is closed on Wednesday the 28th so this new session is replacing the one we have lost. The start/finish time will be as normal. In addition, there will be NO sessions on the Saturday the 24th and Saturday the 31st of December.

2012

The FIRST Club session will be on Wednesday the 4th of January. All other sessions will continue as normal unless you are advised otherwise.

A list of all the dates when we are on/off can be found in the Diary Section of this edition.

CLUB NOTICE BOARD

I am always advising you to check to see if there are any items on the notice – board.
This is more important than ever as we do not get the whole hall on Saturdays as well as Wednesdays meaning we have to go through the changing – rooms to get to our half of the hall. The result of this is that you bypass the board. So make an effort to check it when you arrive or leave. If the other side of the hall is empty when you leave it is permissible to go through and then through the double doors into the hall. Remember to open the door/s first!

LASSWADE ARCHERY CLUB  33RD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

                                            30TH NOVEMBER 2011

Due to the day of strike action for the first time ever we had to re-locate our AGM up the road to the Lasswade Rugby Club. The meeting was attended by 13 out of 43 members.

As always, various topics were discussed with one of the main items being the proposed outdoor venue. My intention was to speak to you all on this matter as I stressed that you should attend the meeting as a move elsewhere would probably involve the purchase of a storage container which would mean using a sizeable chunk of Club funds.                However, it was pointed out that you all had the opportunity to make your views known and as most of you did not attend it was felt that the Committee can go ahead with a purchase if necessary but as yet we have still to hear from the Melville Golf Club if we can re-locate there.

Another item debated was the changed start time to our Saturday session.
Both Adelle and I had several meetings over a long period of time with the Sports Centre management but the only other alternatives were Friday night or Sunday night and due to the shortage of time a decision had to be taken or we would probably lost out entirely.
Both the alternatives presented their own problems and I did ask you all to make your views known and apart from a few members who had their own preferences the majority were happy to “go with the flow”.                                                                                                     As I said in my report to the meeting we will just have to make the best of a less than ideal situation and hope that we can change things if necessary when we move to the new indoor facility in 2013. It may be of interest to you that up to the start of December the average attendance on a Saturday has been 12 members and if it was not for new members who have joined us the attendances would be lower. In other words, I can confirm that this is down on the attendances that we had on Saturday nights.

You will all be pleased to know that there will be no changes to the Club fees for another year. It was mentioned that we do not have a Club fee for a student and as a consequence of this they would normally pay the full adult fee of £120.00p. There is nothing on the Club website about this but after some checking by me a student fee does appear on one of the hand- outs given to new members. So it was decided to confirm the details on the hand-out and that students will receive a 50% reduction meaning that will only pay an annual fee of £60.00 which equates to £1.25 per week! Naturally, the Club can ask for proof of this entitlement before a student member re-joins or joins the Club.

Each year 3 Committee posts are due for re-election and this year the posts of President, Treasurer and Equipment Officer were in the frame with the terms of office to run until 2014.
I remain as President as I did not even get a chance to accept or decline the nomination!
Joan will carry on as Treasurer (I think) and Phil is taking over from Derek as Equipment Officer although this is on the proviso that he is assisted.

The final item at the end of the AGM is the presentation of the Jim Coull Trophy which I awarded to Tina for her on- going efforts in running our tournaments. In addition to Derek and myself this makes her a 3 times winner of this trophy.

COACHING PROGRAMME FOR 2011/2012

KEYS!

It is with great pleasure that I must announce that the missing set of out-door keys for our outside store have been found. It was that horrible man Phil who took them home in error. Some of you will know Phil as the only new beginner who wrecked 2 Club Arrows before he finished the course. However, I think mentioning him here is suitable punishment enough!
Please remember that Phil is Phil to all of you as only his mum and I can call him Phillip!
(So if you don’t want to upset him please call him Phil).
Moving on to the serious element of this item we still do not know where the missing set of indoor keys are. To that end it was agreed that 2 new padlocks were to be purchased for the green storage cabinet plus 5 sets of keys. Four members who attend on a regular basis have been selected to have a set of keys issued to them and they are as follows:-
Myself, Billy, Derek and Phil (that name rings a sleigh bell!) and the fifth set of keys will be issued to the Reception Desk.
In the event that no key-holders turn up then any Club member with THE EXCEPTION of any junior members will need to get these keys from the Reception. So don’t stand around like moon-struck calves hoping that Santa Donald, Santa Billy, Santa Derek or Santa Phil will arrive on time or not at all.
Santa Phil? Yuk! Can you see that bloke in a Santa suit and white - beard. Ha! Ha!
If you have to get the keys then please remember that I have instructed the Reception Staff that under no circumstances are the keys to be issued until you have signed and dated a form I have prepared for them. When you have signed them out it will be your responsibility for the security of the storage cabinet and the keys. At the end of the Club session hand the keys back into the reception. A word of warning here. Please ensure that someone is on duty when you hand the keys back in. DO NOT leave them at the counter if a staff member is not there in case they are stolen by someone.                                                                                        Remember, it is your Club fees that are being used to buy new padlocks and keys.
