ISSUE
Nos.160
APRIL
2009
Dear Members,
There now
follows the
following news…….
CLUB NEWS
On Wednesday the 6th
of next month we
will be moving
outdoors on
Wednesday evenings
till the end of
August. Most of you
who have been with
the Club for some
time will know what
is involved so this
is mainly for our
newer members who
have not shot
outdoors before. As
we have taught you
indoors the main
thing to remember
are the basic safety
rules. While it is
not normally a
problem you should
remember that we are
more at risk of
non-archers straying
on to the taped off
area of our shooting
range. In that case
remember what “FAST”
means. Even if you
are unsure, do not
hesitate if you
think there may be a
problem. Do not
assume everyone will
be aware of a
potential problem.
Our outdoor sessions
usually start by
6.45pm and bear in
mind that unlike
indoors we have to
set up the range
ourselves so the
more members who
arrive on time the
quicker we can start
shooting. While it
is accepted that
some of you may not
always arrive on
time then it would
be hoped that you
would have the
decency to help put
things away at the
end of the session.
In the event of bad
weather we also have
the option of going
into the Sports
Centre to do some
equipment
maintenance but not
to shoot however. I
hope the weather is
kind to us.
One last point to
remember is that the
area we shoot on is
also used by the
school pupils so if
you have any misses
or overshoots let us
know if you have any
missing arrows so we
can look for them.
If any arrows are
lost we must report
this to the Sports
Centre. In other
words if you shoot 6
arrows an end then
remember to return
to the waiting area
with 6 arrows.
P.S. Our outdoor
sessions are not
affected by any
school or public
holidays.
P.P.S. Some
committee members
will have a set of
keys for the outdoor
store. In the event
no key holders
attend then the
Sports Centre will
have a set. Remember
to return the keys
back to the
Reception Desk after
everything is locked
up.
CLUB FEES
By now the deadline
for the 2009/10 Club
fees has passed.
There are still some
members who usually
pay by a one-of
instalment who have
yet to pay despite
the fact they were
given plenty of
notice. To that end
if you have not paid
then when you next
come to the Club you
will have 2 options.
You pay your fees on
the night or you
will be charged a
visitors fee of
£3-50 indoors, £2-00
outdoors. If you
choose the second
option then you can
still shoot as your
GNAS fees etc are
still valid till the
end of September but
you will be treated
as a visitor. This
means that you will
not be eligible to
enter the Club
Championships or
even more seriously,
receive a paper copy
of this outstanding
newsletter if you
are one of the
25%who do not read
it on our website!
Despite the fact
many of you do not
shoot outdoors we
still have to pay
the hire charges for
the Sports Field
regardless if a few
or all shoot
outdoors
CLUB COMMITTEE
MEETING
All committee
members are
respectfully asked
to attend the next
meeting on Thursday
30th
April at 7.30pm at
the usual venue.
TOURNAMENT REPORTS
I have been a bit
lax recently with
our tournament
results so here is
what has happened
since the start of
the year. All 4
events took place at
Lasswade.
EASTERN AREA INDOOR
CHAMPIONSHIPS (SRS)
(600)-18th
January 2009.
A low entry of just
3 LAC members. Once
again a Portsmouth
Round.
The results are as
follows:-
Ladies Recurve
8th
Adelle
(524) ‘E’ Class
Medal
Boys U-16 Recurve
1st
Gareth
(366)
Gents Compound
7th
Keith
(533)
S.A.A. INDOOR
CHAMPIONSHIPS (WRS)
(600) 8TH
FEBRUARY 2009
This shoot usually
takes place at Cluny
Clays in Fife but
due to the fact that
the SAA sold off
their bosses and the
rising cost of the
venue the Club was
approached by the
organisers if the
shoot could be held
at Lasswade. The
Club said yes and
this shoot may take
place at Lasswade
for the foreseeable
future. The round
was a FITA 18m.
We only had one
Lasswade member
taking part this
year, John G who was
shooting his first
tournament as a
senior. Although
John was not among
the medals his score
of 456 is a new
personal bestfor the
FITA 128 round. Well
done John.
LASSWADE INDOOR OPEN
(UKRS) (1200) 1ST
MARCH 2009
Our double round
this year was a
Portsmouth with just
Adelle and Gareth
taking part. Once
again Tina was our
organiser and Derek
was the senior
judge.
The scores for
Adelle and Gareth
were as follows with
the AM scores
followed by the PM
combined scores.
Ladies Recurve
3rd
Adelle am(498)
pm (516)
combined (1014)
Boys U-16 Recurve
1st
Gareth
am(477) pm
(434)
combined (911)
The shoot ran
without any major
problems but again
at the end of day we
received no support
from any of our
members. The
situation was so bad
that we had to rely
on a Penicuik member
to assist Tina with
the results as I had
to remain in the
hall to get things
packed away while
Adelle and Muriel
got all the bosses
and stands back to
the outside store.
Moving swiftly
on………….
INDOOR CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIPS (600)
14 TH MARCH 2009
A good turn-out this
year with 24 members
and one visitor
shooting a
Portsmouth Round. I
even managed to
persuade some of our
new members to shoot
so they could gain
some experience of
doing a tournament.
In addition 6
members also shot
new personal bests
for the Portsmouth
Round.
LADIES RECURVE
It was all change
amongst our ladies
this year with
Adelle winning by 10
points to end Joan’s
5 year run on the
Ladies Trophy. Joan
was so upset that
she now has no-where
to put the
hair-brush for her
cats and has
threatened to double
the Club fees for
next year! Ruth took
the bronze medal and
on behalf of the
Club I would like to
thank her for giving
up her plans to
watch the
Scotland/Ireland
rugby match so she
could attend!
GENTS RECURVE.
David R took the
Gents Trophy for the
seventh year running
with our “NEW MAN”
John G as runner-
up. Our oldest
member Club member
Eddie took third.
JUNIOR RECURVE.
With John G now a
senior it was a
fore-gone conclusion
that we would have a
new junior champion.
Perhaps the next
generation of the
Guest Dynasty, Paul?
No, not quite!
This year Gareth was
the overall Junior
Champion with James
10 points behind and
Paul in third.
GENTS COMPOUND
As last years winner
James B had moved on
the question was,
could Billy regain
the Compound Trophy
which he used to
have to return every
year? In a word yes,
but only just! His
score of 555 was
only
5 points ahead of
his (not so wee) boy
Ross. I think Ross
probably let his old
man win out of
family loyalty!
Keith took the final
medal position.
GENTS LONGBOW
Our only Longbow
archer, the lovely
Richard, decide he
would like to shoot
this year. To give
him an incentive I
invited Alec and
Alan from Penicuik
to take part
although only Alec
was able to attend
on the night.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
APRIL
Wednesday 29th
Last indoor session
for 2008 / 2009
MAY
Wednesday 6th
First outdoor
session for 2009.
As many of you will
now go into your
summer hibernation
mode I will bid you
a fond farewell till
September. Please
take the time to
check the Club
website for any
appropriate events
which may happen
throughout the
summer. Oh! One
final piece of
advice. If you are
holidaying abroad
especially to far
flung areas of the
world then please
remember. Do Not
drink the water,
take Clean
under-ware and Never
take anyone else’s
baggage through
customs. Ha! Ha!
Donald.
